Kayla Moon Arins is the Pokemon League Champion of Alola and an Aura Guardian. After Kayla barely survived death with the events of Lusamine and the Ultra Beast two years prior; Kayla, Gladion, Hau, and Lillie are trying to leave that part of their past behind them. But, some things are hard to forget. Kayla is plagued by nightmares of the Ultra Beasts return to their world with the help of two humans. She fears that the Beast will not only kill her, but everyone she cares about.
Lillie is afraid of touching Pokemon after spending only a month in Kanto with Lusamine. Hau should be completely happy as he is on his way to becoming a Kahuna, but he can't get the girl of his dreams to be with him because she fears that her fear will hold him back. However, Kayla and Gladion are together, which has saved them both time and time again. Yet after Gladion's mysterious departure to Kanto six months prior, Kayla is one edge more than ever.
When two new Pokemon trainers arrive in Alola, Kayla knows they are different. May Maple and Ash Ketchum have reunited thanks to the help of Kayla. May and Ash have been separated for years; however, their feelings for one another have not faded. But, fear of ruining a forever friendship has always held them back. Little does do these two know, they are also part of something bigger. They are essential to help Kayla save The Pokemon world with Gladion, Lillie, and Hau again.
When their is an Ultra Beast attack on Melemele island, Kayla knows her nightmares are coming true, and worst of all she is facing the beginning without the person she relies on most. Now is the time for these six people to save Alola, and the world, from the horrors of the Ultra Beast.
