George Washington was a war veteran who wanted nothing more than to feel loved. Having lost Martha to sickness, he does what she had always wanted. He brought children into the house. He started an orphanage, bringing in any and all children younger than twenty.

Thomas was taken in by Washington with his boyfriend, James, and his cousin, Marquis, when they were thirteen. He was always loud, but kept his opinion unless asked.

Alexander was taken in by Washington four years later at seventeen and brings his boyfriend, John, along.

James hates Alexander from the start, and, as the days go by, and John leaves because his father was found, he starts to hate him more.
