Everywhere she goes, Sierra Holmes sees nothing but glimpses Jacob, her best friend who died three years ago.

After death, most people stay dead. But there are some spirits who don't stay gone forever. And where there is good, there is an equal amount of evil.

Sierra Holmes is torn, yet hard-hearted. After Jacob died, she was never the same, and certainly never got over it. When she begins seeing her dead best friend around the city, she thinks she's hallucinating. But there's a lot more to it than that.

Jacob Ryder wants nothing more than to see his best friend again. He'll go to any lengths to see Sierra just one more time, but as a spirit, slipping back into the mortal world isn't an easy task.

Dean Hunter believes that there are two kinds of people: humans who belong on Earth and spirits that don't. Set on ridding the world of all outside spirits, Dean is hungry for vengeance when Jacob Ryder's return to the mortal world brings a horde of demons with him.
When the two people closest to Sierra drag her into a war of humans versus spirits, she fears that she'll be forced to choose between her two closest friends- her long-time companion who came back for her and the boy who wants him dead again.
