There are different types of vampires. Regular, Rogue, Royal, and Deceiver. And there are also many subcategories. Deceivers were typically avoided, so when Emily met Xander, she did her best to stay away from him because of her existence of being a Deceiver. Xander's a Royal and his father doesn't approve of his son dating Deceivers or any type other than Royal. How's this ever going to work out? Only time will tell.
