Tomako is the sole heir to the Angel dynasty-one of the most renowned farming dynasties in the island of Kushyrin's northern side. Purely Imperian by blood and a pious follower of Puritonism at heart, Tomako-like most Imperians-finds herself taken aback as the Empire of Imperia (or the Asian 'Empire of the East') is so suddenly conquered and occupied by the Empire of Swatsland (Europe's 'Empire of the West'.) Unfortunately for the Angel family, their once prospering farm is thrown into the struggle as Swatsland's emperor decrees new pro-Swatsland regulations in regard to Imperia. As part of a Swatslandic mission to force Imperians to buy agricultural goods from Europe, all of Imperia is restricted to a certain number of farms per island. As cruel fate would have it, the Angel family would be among one of countless farming families to be scorched, pillaged, and looted by the Swatslandic. Worse, is that like so many other families, the Angel family are abducted in the process and put on a ship heading to Swatsland, where they'll all perform free farming labor for the Swatslandic crown-thousands of miles away from their homeland of Imperia.

Having evaded the abduction herself, Tomako now finds herself without a home and a family headed for enslavement in Europe. Defiant and led by her Imperian 'pot of honor,' Tomako will go to any length to retrieve her parents-even with everyone calling it a 'fool's quest.'
