"You never seem to know what you're doing." I say, easing myself slowly into the car. "You always do what you have to at the time, never thinking ahead, never thinking of the future." I'm next to her now, her in the driver's seat and me in the passenger's. We're so close I can feel the warmth radiating off of her body in steady waves. "Why?" She chuckles humorlessly and looks back at me, her eyes sparkling. "That's not a good question, really. It's something we all do." She looks at me for a second before going back to playing with the wires in the car. "We drive without direction, thinking we'd go somewhere." She fiddles with the wires some more, until the engine roars and the car comes to life. She sits up, a satisfied smile on her face, and puts her hands on the wheel. "The question is, are you ready for the ride?" • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Jay Carmin, an 18 year old recently kicked out by his parents, knows life is anything but good. "If you asked me three months ago what heartbreak was, I would tell you it's losing somebody close to you due to unspeakable circumstances. But right now, in this moment, I would say it's you. I would say it's the feeling I got in my chest when I realized I was out of time. When I stood in the rain and yelled for you to stay, but all I saw was your back. I would say heartbreak is lying in bed at two in the morning, watching my ceiling fan go around and around, wondering why you couldn't stop to listen. Two seconds. All I needed was two seconds to say the words. All I needed was to seconds for me to tell you I was in love with you. With everything about you. With the way you move, and the feeling of your arms around me. With the feeling of your chest vibrating as you laugh. Heartbreak is falling in love with everything about you, but having the words permanently stuck in my throat." _____ Gracelyn Levinsky grew up with Daniel Grey. Venom's Alliance: Loyalty's Fracture by LunarisAryson

Kalia's POV : Freedom ain't real. It's just a pretty lie people tell themselves to sleep better at night. Me? I've never been free. Not when I was born into a life where people used me like a tool. Not when I thought I escaped, only to get dragged back in. And sure as hell not now, trapped in a marriage I never wanted with a man who loves me like an addiction-obsessive, toxic, suffocating. Easton swears I belong to him. Calls me his, like I'm a possession, not a person. But I was never meant to be owned. Not by him. Not by anyone. And yet... I'm craving the one person I can't have. The one man I shouldn't want. Jay Kim. My husband's best friend. The only person who looks at me like I'm more than a pawn in someone else's game. The only man who's ever made me feel safe. But love in this world? It don't come without consequences. And choosing Jay? That'd be the kind of mistake that gets people killed. Jay's POV: I never wanted this empire. It was my uncle's before me-a kingdom built on blood, corruption, and greed. But when he fell, I had two choices: take control or let worse men have it. So I took it. And now? I'm doing what he never could. I'm fixing the mess he left behind. Cleaning up the dirt while keeping the wolves from tearing it apart. But then she came back. Kalia Gomez. The only woman who's ever made me want something outside of this life. The one I can't have-because she belongs to someone else. Not just anyone, either. Easton. My friend. My brother in arms. I should walk away. Should forget about the way she looks at me when no one's watching. Should ignore the way my pulse fucking riots every time she's close. But it's too late for that. Because I might be trying to clean up this empire... But for Kalia? I'd burn it all down.

Caught up in the sins and glamour of high society life, Astoria became the girl no one could trust. In order to return to grace, she must do the unthinkable: find a husband before the end of the year... before her mother chooses for her. With only 3 months remaining in the year, she decided to return to the limelight and reengages of high society life. But with everything she needed to build a future, only one question rings in her mind as she faces her fate: was it worth the price? __ The lighting was dull, but I could still see the shadows of his strong jawline, and the broad, muscular build he hid under his suit jacket. I wished I could see more of him-I wished I could see his face. I was intrigued by him, by the man who couldn't seem to look away. I blinked a few times before turning my cheek, suddenly conscious of the way his hidden eyes bore into me; I could almost feel the intensity of his gaze burning holes into my skull. Maybe he knew who I was; maybe he was one of the people I had crossed, they all looked the same to me. I had too many skeletons in my closet to be able to keep track of who was an ally and who was an enemy. If he was the latter, God help me. It was just the two of us outside now on the once compact Parisian streets. We were completely alone. He could do or say whatever he wanted and no one would bare witness. And yet, neither of us moved, too afraid to disrupt the perfect serenity of the moment. I opened my mouth to speak, but I could not bring myself to utter a word. For the first time, I was scared to know what someone was thinking about me. I wanted to know the type of woman he saw staring back at him. I hoped he saw the woman I was pretending to be: the regal, glamorous, refined young lady I'd been bred to become. But somehow I knew he saw me differently. The man who could not look away could see everything, and I just hoped, for the both of us, that he saw how sorry I was.

I can feel his blue-gray eyes digging into the side of my head. I wipe my sweaty palms on my dress and turn my vision away from the moonlight reflecting onto the ocean off of this balcony. Nobody else has ever made me feel like this before, except for him. "W-why are you looking at me like that?" I whisper. I'm expecting him to ask me, 'looking at you like what, Darling?' But he doesn't, and something tells me that he knows exactly what I am talking about. "Because, you are just so...prepossessing, Darling." He whispers, and his voice sends a chill down my spine. I shiver. I swallow loudly and drop my gaze to my lap, my hands shaking slightly. What does prepossessing even mean? "Am I making you uncomfortable?" He murmurs. "U-um no." I shale my head slowly. He stands up abruptly, causing me to look at him. His body towers over me, his eyes searching my face for something that I'm not quite sure of, and then he holds out his right hand. Jen says suddenly. "Hmm?" I hum back. "Do you ever wish you could just live in the forest? Away from everyone and everything?" She looks at me. "Free." We stare at each other for a long time. I see the real meaning in Jen's eyes. Her worries for going home to her overly strict parents. Her fears for the future and the unknown in general. "If we lived in the forest we wouldn't have gummy bears any more." I comment to lighten the mood. She doesn't find it funny. "I'm serious Remi! What if we did run away?" "Jen, we can't just run away. I know your parents are strict but I truly think they just want what's best for you." She says nothing. For a moment I fear she's mad at me but then she puts her head on my shoulder and I know we're okay.

She had been alone with me before but the air in the car was excruciatingly lovely. It felt like home. It was as if she was my wife and I was just driving us home after a long day. At the same time, it felt like I couldn't breathe. For fucks sake, my chest was sweating, but I loved it. I glanced at her as she was leaning her head on the window, her dark ponytail sprawled over her chest. She looked so daunting and elegant it made my heart clench. Sometimes, when I looked really hard and noticed everything I didn't get the chance to in all of the nine years I've known her before she disappeared, it made me feel like a high school boy again. That feeling of happiness when I was with her. Or even just the thought of her. Fuck. I grabbed a cigarette from out of one the cup holders and lit it up, trying to distract myself from her. I inhaled, but when I turned to look at Selene she was covering her nose with her shirt. I furrowed my brows and scowled. Did I smell? "What's wrong?" I softly asked. She glanced at me and shook her head gently, dismissing me. I clenched my jaw. When I pulled my hand up to inhale another smoke, it finally clicked. I quickly threw it out the window and turned the AC on, rolling our windows up. I felt her stare on the side of my face and gulped, trying my fucking best not to smile. "Why did you do that?" She asked me, her voice low. Almost sounding like she was whispering. I quickly shot her a glance before answering. "You have asthma." Her gaze darkened. It was so quiet I could hear her heart beating rapidly while we stared at each other. I couldn't help but want to reach up and kiss her, and hold her like she deserved. She swallowed her saliva and looked away, a smile starting to form on the corners of her lips. I chuckled, already knowing I couldn't escape her now. I wouldn't be able to. It'd be like not having oxygen. And so help me, God, if I didn't have my oxygen.
