Shelby is 14, and hates it at the orphanage, she and her brother have been there for five years now and she's sick of it. Things are strange there. They have specific rules, rule number one: never go outside. Rule number two: obey the administrators. Rule number three: Go to bed on time (9 p.m.) Shelby knows things are strange, but the punishments are brutal. And whoever goes outside is never seen again. Shelby has been planning her escape.
