Shelby lives at a nice little orphanage in Arizona, she is there with her 9 year old brother,  Charlie.  Shelby is 14, and hates it at the orphanage, she and her brother have been there for five years now and she's sick of it. Things are strange there. They have specific rules, rule number one:  never go outside. Rule number two: obey the administrators. Rule number three: Go to bed on time (9 p.m.) Shelby knows things are strange, but the punishments are brutal. And whoever goes outside is never seen again. Shelby has been planning her escape. Allison Mae Carter is 16. She lives in a orphanage. She lives there with 49 other girls. When Allison was 7 her mom found out that her husband was cheating on he with another guy. 3 weeks later Allison found her on the bathroom floor dead. She committed suicide. Well that's what shes been told. Eventually her soon to be stepdad moved in. After the death Allison would not talk to anybody. She was not paying attention at school and would just sit in the corner of the classroom by herself. On top of that her dad started to abuse her daily. It got so bad she had to go to the hospital twice. Even though she hated her stepdad he still liked her. He just didn't know what to do. When Allison turned 8 her dad sent her to an orphanage . Now she lives in Miami Florida.

Ember Andrews had been in an orphanage since she was 5 due to being diagnosed with Schizophrenia at the age of 4. Her parents didn't like the fact of raising a 'Freak' as they called her due to her talking to her hallucinations. They decided that was enough and put her into an orphanage in 2003, age 5.
