In the heart of the ancient city of Corvenor, nestled between towering cliffs and lush forests, lies the prestigious Arcanis Academy, a school where young mages are trained in the arcane arts. Each student here possesses a unique ability tied to one of the elements, or something more obscure, yet equally potent. For Kian Daelor, the newest addition to the academy, his power is unlike anything most students could imagine-he can manipulate magnetic fields. Despite the power his ability offers, Kian's life at Arcanis Academy isn't one of grandeur or adventure, but rather, a quiet struggle to fit in. Gifted with a force that can alter metals and shift the very world around him, Kian finds himself constantly caught between the potential for greatness and the mundane tasks of daily life-studying, training, making friends, and learning the deeper parts of magic that make up his world. Kian is tasked with learning not just how to control his abilities, but also how to navigate the complex, and sometimes frustrating, relationships that come with being part of the academy. From competing with his peers in practical lessons, dealing with the whims of eccentric professors, and making sense of the mysteries surrounding the academy's ancient past, Kian discovers that magic isn't just about power-it's about understanding who you are and finding balance in a world where even the most quiet of moments can carry weight. In a setting where friendships are forged under pressure, and mysteries of long-forgotten magic emerge at every turn, Kian must also confront his own insecurities-about his powers, his place in the world, and whether he truly has the strength to change things for those around him, or simply be a quiet observer in the larger story of Arcanis Academy. Currents of the Academy is a story about self-discovery, the intricacies of magic, and the everyday struggles of being a teenager at a school filled with wonder, challenge, and the constant pull of unseen forces.

"You know it won't go to the West," he said dropping his voice. "Maybe you're wrong. Who knows," she shrugged. Her shoulders had slumped but she had managed to not let any tears spill. "Baum knew what he was doing when he made the West wicked, Mary," he hissed. "The East was wicked in that book too, dumbass," Mary retorted. Jacob's hands went into fists to keep from pushing at his hair. The tree behind them began to shake slightly. The ground gave a tiny rumble. *************************************************** Mary's father recently passed. But she is finding out it might not have been from natural causes... Family adversaries threaten everything while influential other worldly authorities pull the strings. Mary will have to work with an unlikely ally from her childhood to navigate their new found powers and reclaim balance. Meanwhile... one dark soul is climbing the ladder of chaos. [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] This story has short passages from multiple POV. Hopefully you will find a point of view you prefer. Feel free to leave a message. I love comments! As the story progresses you might notice some subtle (and not so subtle) parallels to the Wizard of Oz. As I always advise my students- give it three chapters before setting it aside. Thanks for reading and enjoy! ☺️ This book is in a perpetual state of needing editing. I hope to return to the chapters to add some details. I'm hoping for a sequel as time allows. Oh, the life a middle school teacher... MORE TIME, I NEED MORE TIME. ‼️‼️Warning: Mild Language Please be advised.

Five Star Reviews for Atlantis Academy: "Omg this book was amazing I couldn't put it down or stop reading. I carried it with me open on my phone while I did everything just to keep reading. I need more of all of this. Epic story, epic content, epic visuals, just epic. LOVE THIS!" "Once I got into this story, I did not stop reading it. This is a beautiful story about a very awkward girl who is riven with so much pain and angst and yet... this makes her who she is and shapes her into the person she will become. The world she finds herself awakened to is magical and yet filled with the all-too-familiar cliques and tribes of the very human people who inhabit it. One word to describe the story: beautiful!" "The story pulls you headlong to the end and leaves you wanting to shout "No! Not yet!" ...If there were 6 stars, I would have given it that." *** Humanity is one secret society away from extinction. The children of Atlantis use magic to keep us safe. If they make it through the Academy. Hi, I'm Lyric. And I'm kind of a mess. ADHD, that's me. I'm a high school drop-out, late everywhere I go, and one screw-up away from being homeless. I'm a loner, and I like it that way. Who needs friends when you have a Redwood forest nearby? Trees never bully me like the kids did at school. Or get drunk and throw things at my head. After my mom died, I figured life couldn't get much worse. I thought it might even get better. Ha. The universe has a great sense of humor. I should've listened to the rumors about evil spirits. About the angry, ancient magical creatures haunting our small Oregon Coast town. But did I? No. That was my first mistake. And it might be my last. 'Cause now I'm in a battle for my life. A whole new world has opened up... a magical world I don't understand. And the blood in my veins says I belong here. But I have to prove myself to save myself. And when have I ever done that?

Ariella's biggest desire in life has always been such a simple one. She wants to be 'normal.' Unfortunately, that one simple wish has never been within her grasp. Coming from a long line of witches is bad enough, but she's even more different than the rest of her family. The fact that no one will give her any answers to why she's so different doesn't help matters. Her entire existence is shrouded in secrets that everyone around her refuses to reveal. After a family tragedy, she moves to a new town, and she gets her first chance to at least pretend to be 'normal.' For the first time, she's allowed to leave the house and go to an actual school. She makes friends, and she develops her first crush, that's quickly followed by her second. She's finally living the normal teenage life she'd dreamed of, but it doesn't last. Everything she believed about herself and the world around her is changed in an instant. Family secrets come to light one after another, turning her entire world upside down in the process. She quickly realizes that sometimes ignorance really is bliss, and maybe she didn't really want to know the answers to the questions she'd always asked, especially when one of these truths causes people close to her to turn their backs on her without hesitation. Before she can even recover from the shock, she's thrust into a war that she hadn't even known existed. Loyalties will be tested. She'll have to choose sides between all of the people she's come to care about. Will she stand with her family, her new friends, or the two boys who both hold a piece of her heart? One thing is for sure. She'll have to let go of her dream of 'normal.'

When Ren Holloway, a fiercely independent and slightly chaotic high school junior, stumbles across a hidden ritual in the woods outside her sleepy town, she accidentally becomes bonded to a forgotten creature of the Veil - an ancient plane between life and death. Now cursed (or blessed?) with abilities no one should have - like glimpsing past traumas through touch, sensing when something isn't alive, and sometimes... speaking with things that shouldn't speak - Ren is caught in a centuries-old battle between supernatural forces that have been feeding off her town for generations. The pact is unstable. The creature wants freedom. And something else wants her dead before she figures out why the Veil is thinning - and who caused it. 🧍‍♀️ Main Character: Ren Holloway Personality: Hyper-observant, sarcastic under pressure, uses humor to deflect. Doesn't trust easily. Background: Lost her brother under mysterious circumstances years ago; she's been "the weird girl" ever since. No one believes her when she says the forest is wrong. Skills: Not magical, but freakishly good at puzzles, rituals, languages, and uncovering secrets. Flaws: Impulsive, emotionally repressed, tends to push people away to avoid being hurt. 🐚 The Entity: "The Hollow One" Ren calls it "Echo" (sarcastically at first, but it sticks). A shapeless, ancient being bound to her soul - once a guardian, now corrupted. Speaks in whispers only she can hear. Doesn't understand humanity but is curious about Ren. Not necessarily evil, but extremely morally gray. Feeds on fear and memory. Slowly begins to regain pieces of its identity through Ren's actions.
