This story is much darker than my other ones, and does not have a happy ending. "Escape" deals with abuse and the repercussions of not seeking help immediately. When I first wrote this story for a Creative Writing class in college, it didn't feel right to give It a happy ending. I felt as if it didn't give Mia and the victims of abuse justice since I want my readers to know what happens when help is not sought. If you suffer from abuse - any form, whether it be physical, emotional, or psychological - please, PLEASE, seek help immediately. You're worth more than the abuse you suffer. "Escape" deals with some very difficult subjects and has some graphic imagery and strong language, so please be advised before reading. © 2017 Lindsey Rayner Barnes, all rights reserved.
