Everyone knows the story of Peter Pan, but we do not know much of anything before he met Wendy... not til now that is....
Peter Pan's parents never paid attention to him, except to tell him what he was doing wrong. . . and Peter hated to be treated lesser of anyone. He took their abuse as well as he could, but couldn't take it anymore when they mentioned sending him away.
So, he RAN away.
