We live in a world. Where people can control the stars above And the Earth below. Where gravity is just a word and time has no authority over us. We live in a world where extraordinary people Can control just about everything. Everything except for their own fate. A Tainting Light follows the story of an eighteen-year-old boy that was gifted with authority over fire. His mother had command over water and they were both hiding their abilities from the world. When Finn loses control of his emotions, his world slowly crumbled in the flames. We follow him into a completely different world where almost everyone has authority over something, but it is not as glamorous as he had pictured. Right before Finn's mother passed away she told him everything about Centure, an island off the coast of California where the manipulators live. She told him about the variations of power that her people possess. Extraordinary people can control just about everything- everything except their own fate. For most, you are either claimed for light or dark at birth; covered with markings for everyone to see. The lights are by nature good and able to thrive inside the large cities, the darks are evil at birth and live on the outskirts of city walls with little to nothing. Finn comes to this world as a craved, someone who is not yet claimed, and is immediately scorned for this. The craved are dangerous because once they are claimed, they gain authority over another substance. The seven other craved and Finn search for a mythical item that they believe will change everything, but when both good and evil are seeking their demise, it is only a matter of time until they have to give up, or risk everything trying.

For over a hundred years, humanity has lived in fear of the monsters that roam the streets, lurking in the drains below. Women and their daughters hide, protected in their homes, while men take their sons through the world, teaching them the responsibilities of having a family to feed and dangers to avoid. No one leaves the home unless it's essential, and most of the world prefers it that way. Until one girl spends her days perched on her window seat, looking down at the world below and dreaming of a different life. Her eyes are always drawn to the dark, ominous drains in the street, the ones that often blink open to swallow and person whole. One day, that person is her little brother, snatched right in front of her from their arms of their father and gone forever. When a person is snatched, they never return, and life goes on without them. But she can't accept that. Breaking all the rules, all the things she's ever known, she braves the world outside her little townhouse and goes on a mission into the darkness to find her brother. Only, it's soon her that becomes the one lost to the drains. To survive she must rediscover her world, and in the process, rediscover herself. She will be reunited with old friends, gain new ones, find out deeper secrets about her past than she ever could have imagined, and learn that the world is even more corrupt than she always thought. *** This story contains sexist ideology, mention of cheating, some gruesome scenes, and a whole lot of monsters and darkness. It isn't overly mature... there isn't much explicit language or sexual scenes, but there is a bit of violence, so just keep that in mind... and despite all that negativity, ENJOY!
