Cassiel and Orisha Aercaster are twins from a prestigious family living in a quiet little town where everyone knows everything and images must be preserved.

Orisha couldn't have come out worse in her parent's eyes. She speaks to animals in public, frequently skips school, and constantly speaks of things that aren't there.
But Orisha couldn't care less about other people's opinions. Her home has always been with the daemons, her sketchbook, the wild abandoned things.

Meanwhile, Cassiel excels at making her parents proud with her excellent grades, perfect manners, hordes of friends, and innate gift for finding beauty in the world through her first-rate photography.

They're comfortable with their lives, Cassiel being the successful twin and Orisha being the crazy one.

And then the Wayward Nine broke free from the underworld.

And suddenly the twins have to face the reality that perhaps everything they ever thought they knew was a lie.

Including themselves.
