Set in an alternative universe, 17 year old Lithium Rutherford is an abused child growing up outside the gates of Perdition. Perdition is a place where people with active sins go which leads you straight to hell. Outside the gates isn't any better though. There are druggies, homeless people, a militia, and Turners. However, at least outside the gate you get a chance to go to heaven if you die of natural causes. 
With a new boy, Adrian, moving into town and getting Lithium into trouble, how will her abusive father react? 
If he sends her to Perdition will Lithium go without a word, fight, or the the hell away?
