Our fates should never be controlled by others.

But in Roux Gibson's case, her controlling father has her entire life clenched in his greedy hands. From his preventative measures to keep her isolated to now, arranging a marriage for her. Despite their strained relationship Roux feels betrayed by him and refuses to accept the marriage. She instantly dislikes her "betrothed" Clay Marsden and does everything she can think of to push him away. But, in all her pushing he doesn't budge and soon enough she finds that Clay Marsden is not the man she thought he was. Even still she can't let her father win.

Clay Marsden is set to become the richest man in Millerfront but that's only if he gives in to his manipulative father something he has no intention of doing. Prepped to escape his father his dream is folded on when he hears a conversation between his and Roux's fathers. Gripped with fear of what might happen to a girl he thought he'd never see again, Clay makes an offer his father can't refuse. But, he gets a surprise when Roux doesn't accept him. Despite all of her rude comments, her evil tactics, and cold shoulder, Clay refuses to let her be subjected to what their parents have in store, so he stays and continues to try to win her over.

But, in a battle of wills the winner is never known until the end.
