prologue: "I-I know it's h-hard to l-love me. But, I n-need you to stay. I'm b-broken. Nobody. That's all I h-have. N-nothing." I stammered as sobs racked my body. "I'm on my knees f-for Christ's sake, just say s-something!" I yelled as I buried my face in my hands. "That's where you're wrong." I looked up at him in confusion as another tear trailed down my cheek. He bent down to my current level so he could look into my eyes. Tucking a strand of hair behind my ear, he grabbed my face in his hands. "Please, stop crying. I can't stand it." "I didn't have anybody..until you. With you, I can feel again. My heart was numb for what felt like ages, but...not anymore. I feel better now that I know you. But, now that you're leaving me, I'll become what I was two months ago. A broken, battered soul. I don't wanna be that person. I want to get better. I just want somebody to love me and for me, to finally love somebody." "Who said I was leaving you?" He said just below a whisper.

Prologue The darkness of the past loomed over her like a shadow, a constant reminder of the pain and suffering she had endured. Her mother's tears, her father's abuse, the toxic cycle of violence that had defined her childhood - it was a legacy she had vowed to break, but one that continued to haunt her. As she stood in the silence of her room, the memories came flooding back. The sound of her mother's sobs, the smell of her father's anger, the feeling of being trapped in a world that seemed determined to consume her. She had thought that she had escaped, that she had found a way to break free from the chains of her past. But the truth was, she was still trapped. Trapped in a cycle of abuse, trapped in a relationship that was slowly draining the life from her. She looked at herself in the mirror, and saw a reflection that was both familiar and foreign. The bruises on her lip, the fear in her eyes - it was a sight she had grown accustomed to, but one that still filled her with a deep sadness. She knew that she deserved better, that she was worth more than the pain and suffering she had endured. But the question was, would she ever be able to find the strength to walk away, to leave the past behind and forge a new future? The answer, she knew, lay in the unknown. It was a journey she would have to take, one step at a time, one breath at a time. And as she stood there, frozen in the silence of her room, she knew that she would have to find the courage to take that first step, no matter how daunting it seemed.
