After listening to his tape, Clay Jenson doesn't want to return home. He just feels like there's nothing left. He feels like he killed Hannah and it was all his fault. Why should he deserve to go home? He runs away and soon understands why Hannah left reasons as to why she killed herself. It would be selfish for him to leave with no explanation. Some of his explanations, he realises, are more so just him being angry because of something someone did to Hannah. And that's when he realises, he should be with Hannah because he did and still does love her.
But it's too late, right? Hannah's gone.
