Caroline Forbes, vampire, former Miss Mystic Falls and self-confessed control freak, has graduated from college. For years since turning, Caroline has been living her life as if she were human, going to college, making friends, breaking friends, meeting guys, hooking up, breaking up... But she's a vampire, with the world at her feet, and seriously, what is she going to do with a degree? She's way too awesome to get stuck in some dead end job. As she packs up her dorm, filled with disappointment about having to return to Mystic Falls, there's a knock at her door.
