This was a project I had to do for Short Story creative writing class in college. I wrote this in honor of the thousands of dogs caught in the hellish world that is dog fighting.
I also wrote this in honor of my own pit bull/boxer mix, Rojo, whom we found roaming our neighborhood frightfully skinny and afraid. I hate to think about the life my sweet girl COULD have landed in.
RED is not a true story but for a lot of dogs out there, it is the life they live. I post this in hopes that those who read it will become more aware of the world of dog fighting and become inspired to do more to prevent it. I hope you enjoy RED as much as it breaks your heart.

I wrote this a long time ago, when I was 14/15, a time when self harm was something that seemed to just be everywhere in my life. I apologise to anyone who read this before I put this notice here, but I'm pretty sure in every chapter there is some sort of mention of mental illness/self harm. I know I could just take the story down, but it was one of the first ever stories I wrote that I liked and completed, and although I admit now it's not great, it shows progress. And progress is everything. Baby steps. Sorry again. This is an official TRIGGER WARNING. Emma is depressed. She's just been dumped and is being bullied. Can Jack save her or will she break his heart? The experiment.
They used my vulnerability against me. They used that weapon, to make me accept their stupid idea. And I of course, accepted it, I didn't even know what they were going to do. They tugged and poked and even shoved their disgusting finger in your wound, just to see you cry. To see you change. No pitty in their eyes. They just continue. They drag you around with metal chains, hit you and turn you into a experiment. But I had enough of the tugging, the clawing, the moaning, the crying and pleading for them to stop, but simply feeding them with our pain. They turned me into something, that neither do they know what I am. Their afraid of me, of my reflexes, my strength. I killed a lot of them. They say I have a cold heart, that I don't feel nothing. That's why they call me: Death -----------------------------------------************************************--------------------------------------------- Death. A teen girl, pitch black hair, black eyes, white skin. Her height is 5'8. People are scared of her, not just because of her strength but because of they way she kills. She lived in this hell hole, where they take her to rooms. Examine. Fight. She knows she won't be able to entertain them for long. She decides to run. Soul. Brown hair as mud, blue eyes as the sky. Hight 6'2. Tanned and toned body. Death's best friend in the hell hole they're in, he's as cold as she is. But shows a bit of sympathy. Well... More than her at least. Safe and Sound: The Short Memoir written by Elliot Parker. I've always written stories and music about my personal life. It was the only thing that would heal my scars and wounds. However, there was always a hidden layer of truth that I tried to shield from everyone in order to protect myself. Everything I write tends to be about my thoughts, feelings and emotions but in a way that I could keep them private. This essentially led me to bottle it all up and throw it far into the water. And then I was pulled underwater where I was going to have to face every part of my brain and heart in order to swim through the storm I became trapped in. This story was written about my life in ways I've never explored with writing. It was excruciating to look at my deepest insecurities, the feelings for a boy who never loved me back, and the most traumatic events I've had to experience, in the eyes. Writing a memoir that was originally for an assignment, turned into something more for me. It allowed me to revisit the past and try to explain them in my words, instead of rumors being spread faster than a forest fire. Sometimes you don't know you're hurting until you're being forced to sit in a locked room with your past. Realizing just how much pain and suffering I am still going through was tough, but it opened my eyes and allowed me to release the words I've been holding hostage for months. These four chapters were written about moments in my life that I've never shared with anyone before. I'm ready to tell my story.
