Cornelius hears his bell jingle. Who could that be at this hour? He stands, stretches his arms above his head and walks to his door. The bell jingles, impatient now, until he opens his glossy door.
In the pouring rain stands a drenched girl. Her breast length, chestnut hair lays against her loose plaid shirt and underneath her clingy white shirt is nearly see through. Cornelius blushes crimson. Her faded and holey blue jeans look almost black. She shifts her weight. Her classic Converse squeak on his rock path.
Her big brown eyes grow wide and her pink lips part in a soft gasp. "It's you! It's really you!"
Cornelius stares at the strangely dressed girl with curiosity. "Do I know you?"
"Ye-well, well no. But I know you! I know all about you Cornelius Grant. You see, where I come from we have books. And this man invented a machine so we can go into them. I came to yours to save you."
"Save me?" Cornelius asks with a scrunch of his brows. "From what?"
"From your not-so-happy ever after."

Shit. The corners of her mouth pull up, and it's so unnatural, it takes me a moment to realize she's smiling. Major plastic surgery? Probably. Click. Did she just lock the door? She locked the door! I spring towards the house phone, dusty from years of doing absolutely nothing, so I can call the police. I don't make it. Halfway there, I trip on my own pant-leg and face plant on the floor. The woman steps over me and retrieves the phone. She looks at it as if it's a foreign object, "This won't be necessary. All I want to do is talk to you." For some reason, instead of screaming, I stay silent. She smiles and pulls out a chair from the kitchen table for me to sit on. When I don't sit, she says, "If you want to know what's going on, then sit." I think about it for a moment. She hasn't hurt me yet, and I have to admit, I am quite curious as to what's going on. edit (7/6/23): bro what is this story? plot execution sucks fr 😭 A hard-working widow, Charlotte Wormwood, lost her daughter in a tragic accident. 20 years later, she stumbles across a homeless girl who appeared to have the same birthmarks as her deceased daughter! She appeared to have knowledge of her daughter's past life! Charlotte tries to solve the mystery of her daughter's death and the peculiar girl. She gets trapped in a morbid time machine which travels her to 1945, the year on her daughter's death, to try to save her from the events. Could this all be a coincidence or just some weird hoax? ----------------------------------------------------------------- Everyone has there own secrets. Some are dark and morbid, even when everyone in your town talks about it. You swore to secrecy that they wouldn't tattle, but you sometimes can't trust them, even if something goes terribly wrong that the truth has to be uncovered.... Warning: contains violence in some scenes. I have no interest or intention in actually killing someone or something. This is just a book I like to write and criminal minds in the '40s-'60s got me thinking of writing my very first book (which is this one). This just keeps getting worse. How am I supposed to dodge past two of them? "What do you want now?" the new soldier grumbles. This one must be Alex. "Look at this cute little human I found. His Possession. Mafia Romance. Dark Romance. Enemies To Lovers. "Let me go!" I seethed through gritted teeth. I felt an uncontrollable amount of fear rake over my body. I soon began to shake. The fear that I just barely managed to suppress earlier is now clawing its way back up to the surface, rearing its ugly head once again, and hits ten times harder than before. The sensation is literally paralyzing. The feeling totally bypassing 'fight' or 'flee' and going straight to freeze. I feel like yacking up all that greasy food I had eaten during my shift at the diner. But I swallow the urge to do so and grit my teeth. Trust me, I wanted nothing more than to yack all over this pretentious douche. "Sorry kitten, not ever going to fucking happen." He said carelessly as he tightened his grip on the steering wheel. His eyes were fixed on the dark road ahead of us, the road I surely didn't want to die on. Before I could even finish forming a coherent thought, the car swerved hard to the side of the road and comes to a sudden stop, sending me flying into the dash. My forehead collides with the smooth leather of the dashboard. I hear him rustling around, but can't see much due to the black spots in my vision. You know, from literally eating the dash. I hear the sound of something popping open and then liquid being poured. "Tell me kitten," I hear him say slyly. "Does this smell like chloroform?" He chuckles as he reaches across the console to press a rag to my face. Emily Watts, twenty years old and living alone in LA, due to her parents being drunken assholes. He whispers as I felt something sharp on the side of my waist that was piercing the surface of my skin. My heart pounds heavily my breathing became strained causing me to exhale faster and heavier. We stood inside my bedroom feet away from my sleeping husband he pulls me closer to his body moving backwards to the hallway. I could only follow hoping that my life would be spared. Suddenly, we stopped by the edge of the staircase. "You're mine." He whispers in a hoarse tone placing a kiss on my cheek hitting me on the head with the back of the knife. I was seeing double. I was feeling dizzy, everything was spinning. I felt like I was in slow motion groaning at the pain looking down the stairs. That's the last thing I see before I black out. I watched him watch me as he was about to press his fist into the big red button that read "Emergency Fire!". I was unable to form words because, I thought about how hot he looked as he stared back at me with such intensity. It just intrigued me. I finally snapped out of my trance, but not because I'd came to my senses, but because I felt a cold sensation running down my body. I blinked about three times before it finally registered that he'd pressed the button and now water was spilling from the roof, and some students were laughing and playing.
