We Are One (The Monkees Family Vol. 1)
The time, summer of 1967. The setting, the Vietnam War is raging and the women's liberation movement is just getting off the ground. A new movement in music is beginning, all coalescing at the Monterey Pop Festival. The Monkees are trying to hit the bigtime and they find some new friends and lovers to help them face their future. The Monkees have become a more successful band. They've got a lucrative six-month contract at a nightclub, and now they've got a steady following and even groupies. Micky has become a groupie gatherer, but now he's got his eye on one special lady, Gabby. She's not interested in becoming just another conquest. She's been through that before. Will Micky be able to woo her? Mike and Peter are luckier. Gabby's friends are just right for them and their romances make contented men of them both. Davy struggles with changing his horndog ways after he faces a huge crisis in his life. With the help of a good woman, he might just make that transformation. Together, the group bonds into an extraordinary family. This story contains sexually explicit passages. Don't read it if that bugs you. They're not gratuitous. But over the years, there have been fractures and conflicts sown between various members of the band. Loyalties have been tested and goodwill has been squandered. Will the family be able to pull the band back together and give their old and new fans what they want? Our Hearts' Desire (The Monkees Family Vol. 2)
The Monkees finally hit the big time. They score a recording contract and a national tour, and become a sensation. Even as they sell millions of records and play to packed concert halls, however, they struggle for artistic and creative freedom, control of their image, respect from the music industry and critical acclaim. There are also tensions within the band, and Micky and Gabby quietly work to hold everyone together as the family they have become. In the meantime, everyone's personal life is on the ascendancy, with relationships and commitments becoming solidified and promises being fulfilled. With these changes come individual challenges and confrontations that threaten to rip the couples and even the whole group apart. Once again, it's the Monkees family bond as a whole that supports each member and keeps everyone on track. Most surprising of all, Micky and Davy find themselves changing from best friends to rivals. They're both in love with Gabby, and Micky has made some spectacularly bad choices that leaves the field open to Davy to swoop in and plead his case to Gabby. Who will she choose?
