Livia Gaston was a loyal and devoted operative of Hydra organization, she completed her tasks efficiently and worked each day to make sure Hydra was at the top, but that all changed when it came to James Barnes.
When James was found at the bottom of the cliff, Hydra doctors had decided that they would do anything possible to turn him into the ultimate weapon of destruction and someone who would bring victory to Hydra. Livia had been part of the operation to help James be turned into the deadliest assassin the world had yet to see, by working alongside him in missions and shaping him into a man that everybody would fear one day. But there were things that even she was hidden from too. Some very deadly secrets that if they were exposed it meant a very painful death. So when those secrets were exposed and lives were threatened, especially James's life, Livia had made a decision. She would save James no matter what. She knew that the man deserved to live a life and not be reduced to being Hydra's pet, but of course that came with a price, after all committing treason wasn't as simple as taking a walk through the park, but it was the price that Livia was willing to pay. Livia knew that James needed a saving grace, and so that was exactly what she became, his saving grace.
