Entering the ripe age of seventeen, Rebekah Wills is expected to be married. Until she does so, she remains under her father's watchful and cruel eye. Angering her father is all that she wishes to avoid, but that is inevitable when she purchases a spirited mare that refuses to complete farm work. When the rumors are impossible to keep from soaring into Rebekah's ears, she realizes that there is a flame inside her. Seeing that same flame spark inside her horse and a childhood friend, she embarks on a journey that could find her death, or find her freedom. If her father knew what she was doing inside his office at midnight, she could be hanged. _________________________ • Named CBY Book of the Week • Ranked in top 90 for Historical Fiction
