AU. Hiccup Haddock is a menial in the court of King Harild Hofferson, orphaned and shamed when his father vanished on a secret mission into Berserker territory. With no hope of becoming a knight, he still continues his training in secret with his father's old friend, the blacksmith Gobber.

Doing a favour for a knight in training, he takes his place on a routine hunting party with the Princess Astrid but when they are attacked by Outcasts and the Princess is lost with only Hiccup to protect her, her escorts cover their incompetence by claiming he kidnapped her.

Unaware of their treachery, Hiccup will do everything to ensure Astrid gets home safely-despite every obstacle-and restore his family honour.

  Medieval AU, Hiccstrid.

AU. Hiccup never took the shot on that fateful night. Toothless was never shot down-and the war continued. Three years later, Berk is beset by dragon raids and hostile tribes while the boy who should have saved the island is merely the assistant in the forge. Replaced as Heir and with only the beautiful Shield Maiden Astrid as his friend, fate gives Hiccup one more chance to end the war and become the hero he was meant to be. Hiccstrid.
