There were no thirteen reasons why Alex Standall shot himself, no tapes and no note. Everyone who knew about the tapes had good reason to believe that they were the reason he did it but no one could be sure, and so far no one besides the teachers at Liberty High and his family knew.

The headmaster knew the students had to find out, it was important to give them the message as soon as possible, so he made an emergency gathering in the school's gym. Justin Foley was unbelievably anxious as the students in their year were gathered and sat down in the gym, an uneasy feeling in the pit of his stomach. All of the teachers had something sad and relatively off about them and even though he knew things hadn't been great over the past few weeks, this seemed worse. It felt like the same atmosphere as when they addressed Hannah Baker's suicide.
