Katie was diagnosed with Dissociative Identity Disorder shortly after her fourteenth birthday. With medication and therapy, she managed to gain some semblance of normalcy in her day to day life. She's getting better- really she is.
That is, she was getting better before she was abducted by a man with even more issues than her.

It is more like a coping mechanism to help oneself deal with all the negativity of this world and it takes courage... lots of courage... especially if you have undergone traumatic experiences in your childhood.
