The year is 398. The story tells of Domitilla, a roman farm girl who lived a bland life until the Visigoths came and plundered her village, sparing only her.    She's been whisked off into a strange world with new traditions and people. As she struggles with the loss of her family and her survival, she's given a prophecy: that she will be the one to save the people who have taken everything away from her. He escapes from his captors and takes in a lost little girl who could be the key to the life he wants. However, as he is pursued by the Wyngerians, an army that thirsts for power and glory, he hopes to not be dragged into any wars for the benefit of his allies and foes.
