When Naruto was a child he was forced away by his parents for his sisters and beat until he went mute.
Kurama saw a way to kill two birds with one stone. seeing Naruto beat until he went mute and wanted to help. He gave Naruto his powers over nature and by doing so killing himself, tearing his power from his sisters so he can pass on.
From all of this Naruto the mute sage is born.

At his 3rd birthday and he got his first beating, he met the Nine Tailed Fox otherwise known as Kurama. He celebrated by himself but the villagers saw him and they beat him up, in the beating someone stabbed his left eye making him blind on the left side.
