It's been nine years since the war with Kuvira.

Bolin and Opal got married and had children together.

General Iroh married Asami and are the Fire Lord and Lady of the Fire Nation. Korra got engaged. 

As for Mako? He went back to being a detective after Prince Wu overthrew the monarchy andand decided to be a singer. But he wasn't seeing anyone after he and Korra broke up. Although he's happy that Korra is marrying someone who she truly loves, he can't help but think that he should have done something that could have kept them together. That is until Korra's sister managed to catch his attention.
