Iliana Katrakis couldn't care less about the will of the gods, and she's certain they feel the same way about her.

After all, it's rare for the god-touched to live normal lives--and that's all she wants. Having spent the last three years aboard the merchant ship Airlea, Iliana couldn't be happier. Sure, her best friend Kain is the only one who knows she's a girl, but it's a good life. The work is simple, and her shipmates are the closest thing to a family she has.

Fate, however, is not on her side.

A storm tosses the Airlea wildly off course. Within the day, she's stranded, alone and injured, on a foggy island known only as Inna's Cove. She's given a choice: become one of the islands' goddess blessed sirens and rescue her best friend, or take her chance with the monster-infested woods. The choice seems obvious.

That is, until the mercenaries arrive. Their captain wants a siren--and not even the threat of the goddess' wrath will change his mind.

King Reyansh Singhania had never been taught the meaning of love or respect. Hell, he didn't even know how to treat a human being with any form of decency. Words like compassion, empathy, love, and care were foreign to him-concepts that held no place in his world. Why should they? He had no connection to them. His reality was built on cruelty, dominance, and power. Growing up, the only lessons he learned were about control and ruthlessness. Women were nothing more than tools for his pleasure-sluts, whores, or disposable objects meant to bow before him and cater to his needs. He had never seen them as equals. For him, a woman was someone who would spread her legs and accept the pain he inflicted, not someone to be cherished or respected. For Reyansh, emotions were a weakness. He buried them so deep, building walls around his heart higher than any fortress. He was a king, and kings do not love. They conquer. And love? Love was a betrayal he refused to entertain. It made him feel vulnerable, and vulnerability was something he could never afford. But fate has a wicked way of breaking even the hardest of men. Then came Kiara. At first glance, she seemed ordinary-pale skin, striking green eyes, soft pink lips. Yet, there was something about her that defied the world he created for himself. She wasn't like the others. She didn't bow to his whims. She didn't give him the control he was used to having. She was fierce, unapologetically herself, and that fire ignited something Reyansh had long buried. For the first time, he found himself unable to control the fluttering in his chest. He didn't know what to do with the emotions she stirred in him. He couldn't let her get away. He would break her to make her his. She would be his whore, his slut, his mistress, his queen-his wife. She was his to love, to hurt, to hate, to dominate. She was his. And no one, not even her, could escape the chains he would make for her.

"Kaiden Ma" - a young and handsome genius who is also the richest heir in the East - has a little problem. One - he is way too grumpy; and two - he is mysophobic. With his family pushing him in a relationship, the problem escalated. For how can he possibly be in a relationship if he can't even touch anyone? Due to this, he is forced to look for a suitable "pretend" partner. "Senara Lee. I'd like to offer you a deal." "Hm? A deal? What deal?" "I need a fake girlfriend and you're the only one who's trustworthy enough to assume the position. Be my girlfriend for a year and I'll make one of your books into a movie." "For real?! Can they defy fate when their enemy wrote the rules? As a linguistics student and book nerd, Eric didn't think it was his fate to be surrounded by powerful women or to travel a road filled with danger and magic. But when he picks up a dusty vintage book from an antique store, he finds himself surrounded by Light lords, Dark lords, and Sirens-the ancient, winged keepers of a delicate balance between worlds invisible to humans. Telese, the brazen Siren who appears in Eric's dorm room, has tried to distance herself from humans while working to keep the balance between the Light World, which wants humans to progress, and the Dark World, which wants humans eradicated. After millennia of unwilling loyalty to her all-powerful father-whose orders are as calculated and heartless as his punishments for defying them-Telese fears his latest order could mean the end of humans and Sirens both. Telese's yearning for freedom and Eric's passion for knowledge bring them together in a dangerous alliance. They must challenge their old beliefs to bring together the warring Light and Dark Worlds, reveal magic to humans, and rally the Sirens against the father-leader who wrote their rules. Can Eric and Telese save humans and create a united, harmonious system of rule, or will the worlds they must align fall victim to their hubris? *** Hubris is now published through Balance of Seven Publishing. "Goodbye Curly Head" by NUmaker

Through thick and thin the Law shall prevail. A new sense of purpose awaits us, children of light, in the land where it all began. The darkness in which we once cowered in fear, now curbed by the might of our endless light. Come, brothers, come, sisters. Let there be peace among the wicked, just as the Law dictates. Peace and certainty is all that you have ever longed for, little angel. A bright, stable future. A roof without holes above thy head. Acknowledgement and recognition of thy existence, feverish dreams of grandeur. Greed born from yearning, treacherous vines of rapacity taint your innocent soul. You seek a future that does not exist. Let thy fingers hold the fragile line between dream and nightmare. Let thy light navigate the path. Shall thee give in and falter, O' land of old, envelop his body in thy unending flame of chaos. Spit out nothing but an empty husk, the remnants of a smile once so bright. Shall thee prevail, O', Great Kazdel, I ask of you, the impossible - take mercy on the innocent. Don't let the radiance dim and don't let the mind turn bleak. Wake, young traveler. Bid thy farewells and burn thy bridges. It's time to say goodbye, curly head. Cross post from AO3. For a shorter and more on-point description, look no further! I had something silly written up before throwing it out in exchange for that wall of text upstairs. It's a little story "about a young, dumb sankta who's been dealt a bad hand at life, looking for his place in all this mess. The pointless search for a better future leads him far, far away from home, to a country forever ravaged by war and misery - Kazdel, the promised land where devils roam free and peace feels out of place." Anyway, it's quite lengthy, but hopefully enjoyable? Slide a comment if you want, I'll give you a tiny kiss on the forehead. Man, do I love comments. (Lastly, to point out, English is not my native language, but I don't think it'll be much of an issue ;3)
