Always and Forever is a Mikaelson oath that shows the bonds of their love and loyalty towards each other, it's something so powerful that the oldest being alive envies them. 

James is the first supernatural being and is also the oldest, living his immortal life constantly collecting mystical artefacts and adopting people to create a family that could stand the test of time and when a powerful evil is awakened in New Orleans it draws him there, bringing him to a family that he aspires to either create or join and despite his power, he will be eternally loyal to the family he hopes to form which is something even Klaus may not be able to resist.
