Playing video games never seemed like a bad thing until a secret group known as VGHQ - Video Game Hacking Quarters - got into games all over the world and selected 30 "random" gamers to compete on TV. These games are twisted though. Your rank can mean life or death. One mess up and your life is over. Second lives and restarts aren't handed out in these games. You have to play to perfection or face death. Ryota Eidos, a sixteen year old girl, is selected to play this game of life or death, and she knows the number 1 ranking is the only way to win, and in this case, live.

"How do you feel now, Morgan?" She says, more pointing something out than asking a question. She grabs hold of my wrists and tightens them. If I could see properly I could swear I see them turn purple. "I could beat you to the bone, right here, right now, till you die from your injuries. But, I won't. You will die. Maybe not today, maybe not in a month, but you will." Well, obviously I'm going to die. Humans don't live forever. "Wonder why?" "No, and I really don't care." She answers anyway. "Because we have the power, the people, and the weapons to do it. Face it, you're defenseless against us." I feel some blood flooding my mouth, so I, being a perfectly nice person, spit it in her face. That doesn't faze her at all. "I have the strength and intelligence, something you clearly don't have. Whatever y'all do to me, it won't break me. I will put up a hell of a fight before losing. I will fight, and I will win." I turn over and look at her fellow companions. "Even if I die doing it." "Is that a risk you're willing to take?" ____________________________________ 17 year old Morgan Peters is an average girl living life. ---HIGHEST RANKING #17 IN FANTASY--- At the official release of the first-ever fully immersive Virtual Reality, an unnamed cyber-terrorist has hacked into the main software of the game. Players are not able to log out and return to reality, and are stuck within the fantasy fighting game. With no way to warn the outside world and no way to escape, 100 thousand players are to meet the cyber-terrorist's quota by beating the entire game. Not only must they kill millions of monsters and thousands of bosses, but they must slay all of the 30 demigods and the 12 literal god-like raid bosses. Upon that, there is no respawning. Death crosses both realms of the game and reality. Follow the journey of Ben Even, his friends, and thousands of other players as they form and strengthen friendships, display the full extent of the human spirit, and realize the importance of hope while Even battles his demons from the past, guilt of the present, and anxiety for the future.
