Set in the final blazing years of 19th-century Spanish Colonial Philippines, when unrest among the natives rise day by day as cruelty and abuse by Spanish authorities rule their lives. In the midst of brewing turmoil, a young boy shares in the plight of his people. He grows up to be one of the youngest but most prominent leaders of the Philippine Revolution, but it was no easy path getting there. This young man is Emilio Jacinto: unwavering, highly-intelligent, and aflame with the desire to free his nation from colonial slavery.
This is a creative re-imagining of the young hero's life with his struggles, fears, and dreams, as one event led to another until in him grew a fire that burned bright and true.

"The light that burns twice as bright burns half as long--and you have burned so very, very brightly."
Tyrell to Roy Batty, "Bladerunner"
"Brilliance dazzles and blinds. The eyes need light to behold the true nature of things... Let us seek light."
-Emilio Jacinto, "Light and Darkness"
A/N: Took liberal liberties (don't kill me, Jacinto's descendants xD), but a good amount of research has also been done. Credits will come in later as I pile in the research. :)
Rated PG-13 for language, violence in future chapters, and some adult situations (nothing naughty though! Yikes!)

*****
Rose Wilde has always considered herself plain, especially when compared to her beautiful older sister Charlotte, and has practically given up on the idea of being romanced. But when American hotelier Derek Montgomery comes to revolutionise her little, sleepy English village of Ascot, Rose starts to revisit the idea of falling in love. However, Derek brings with him many secrets and obligations, some that might prohibit him from pursuing Rose -- and push her into the arms of her friend, Michael Cornell, the Marquess of Juniper. Will fate allow Rose and Derek to marry for love? Or will she indeed become the reluctant marchioness?
