Yellow death

My heart started racing. My breath became short and rapid. I ran in the opposite direction. Water sent flying as my feet splashed into the puddles. The flashing lights came closer and closer. Sound roared through the deserted streets as the car got closer and closer. My heart pounded as my feet crashed against the ground. They are going to catch me, was all I could think with every step. The forest line was close, I would be safe there, well safer than out here in the open. The shadows created by trees where my friends, they protect me, but they also protect those we are running from. But it's still safer. I need to make it back to her, I promised she wouldn't be alone, I can't leave her out there she would never survive. She can't die like the rest of them.
