Sam is normal. She has to be. But normal girls do not get slammed into the kitchen wall out of the blue, and normal girls do not leave burn marks on their mother's arms, especially not in the shape of a handprint.

Or at least, she was. Whisked away to a magical world of Gifteds, she's thrust into a seemingly endless war she never knew was happening, and forced to play the role of a soldier. She never asked for this. She never wanted this. All she ever wanted was to get through school and live her life without facing a life-threatening disaster.

But then, she never truly had a choice. Samantha is a Gifted, and this war is her war now.
