This takes place during the time when Dean was extremely angry at Cas for practically ignoring his pleads and calls. The brothers find Cas bloody and beaten, his wings broken in several places, as well as what seems to be an archangel, none other then Gabriel, protecting his sorry ass from overpowered demons. Gabriel has his doubled brown wings over Cas as he protects his little brother, Sam being the more affectionate one towards Cas that he is, demands he and Dean help regardless of how angry Dean is.
