Seventeen-year-old Eila was ready to graduate and move on to college for a fresh start and a better life- until her best friend and first love, Carson Dockery, is involved in a terrible car accident that renders him unconscious. The doctors believe he will never wake up again, but Eila and Carson's family hold onto a tiny seed of hope. Carson stays hooked up to the life support, and Eila visits him every day just to be with him.
One day, a mysterious boy, Gavin, begins to notice Eila and the strange jellyfish she draws all over her notebook every day in class. He follows her and slowly gets to know more and more of the girl everyone thinks is weird, the one dubbed "Jellyfish Girl". Meanwhile, Eila tries to sort through her feelings for Carson.
