Ember Toretto-O'Connor is forbidden from street-racing and watching it.  She sneaks out and watches anyway, sticking to the shadows and not talking to anyone to avoid people founding out who she is.  She starts falling for one of the top racers in the street-racing scene: Jason Stark.  But soon a new crowd comes onto the scene.  They're serious racers looking for new recruits to help them with heists.  One starts taking an interest in Ember, causing her, her family, and Jason to flee to Rio.  Secrets are revealed in their stay to the unsuspecting Ember, along with an unexpected ally who joins them to protect Ember from suffering the same fate as her brother.
