It's a quiet town. Not much to say about the neighborhood that Cory lives in. But as far as his social life is concerned, it would most likely be classified in the 'could be better' situation. The school? Overrun by Maxwell and his ruthless band of buddies. The academics? A misdemeanor. Cory really doesn't know too many people outside of his home, until the dog comes. Small and unexpectedly, the four-legged creature worms his way into Cory's life changing it for the better and the worse. For most of his life Cory didn't know a friendship, all the way up until that one school-year when everything changed.

Then he gets word that his cat, Bernie, just died and he can collect him and bring him home! Geoff and Naomi hurry to get Bernie only to discover that, due to a clerical error, their cat has been lost.
