Paz and Krizmarica are two of the many research subjects of the Nazis. Krizmarica, a fifteen-year-old tries to escape, but is captured. Instead of getting killed, the Nazis give her a bigger punishment. Meanwhile, twelve-year-old Paz is tortured by being placed in dark room for a long time. That night, an exhausted guard forgets to shut the locks of Krizmarica and Paz. Krizmarica seizes this chance to escape and pleads for Paz to join her. She is hesitant, but eventually flees with Krizmarica. The two barely make it out and are not sure what to think in this whole new world. The two girls befriend Robin Hood, a charming homosexual who lives in solitude in the forest. The three embark on a journey to find the 'safe people' and will face many obstacles along the way.
