Layla's last name was also Black, but she wasn't sorted into Slytherin.
Her daring nerve and recklessness got her put into Gryffindor, the lion house, the house of the brave. Layla is determined to show that she belongs in Gryffindor and that she is more than the daughter of an escaped convict, but also cause a bit of mischief along the way.
