"Maybe one day you'll be able to love me back," he whispered, hugging me closer to his chest and resting his chin on the top of my head.
"I know," I whispered back, hugging him closer if that was even possible. I felt his hands playing with my hair, unknowingly bringing comfort with every stroke. I sighed, the noise muffled out from his jacket.
A stretch of silence encased us and all we could hear was the beating hearts of each other and the rhythmic pattern they made.
"You know I won't ever stop fighting for you." He suddenly said, breaking that solitude of silence. I immediately felt his gaze boring through me, a hot fire taking up my body. I looked up at him, frowning as I saw how much pain was held in his eyes.
I wished it didn't have to be this way.
I wished it could've turned out different.
I wished I had a choice.
Pushing my emotions back, I replied an answer than I knew he wasn't going to like. One that made me feel like a heartless villain. A simple sentence that I knew had to be said, just to get the truth out into the open, rather than kill us from the inside. "I know you won't," I gave him a hard look, distancing myself away from his intense gaze, "but neither will he."

I flinch and look back into his eyes. I feel hurt by his words and I don't know why, but I know he sees it in my eyes. His faces flashes with regret but it's quickly covered up with his faces going back to it's hard cold look. I feel my heart stop and my face go pale. His look terrified me making me hold my breath. "Breath." He orders. I start to breathe again and just blink at him. "Now go." He orders me again. I flinch involuntarily at his tone and jump back slightly. "Please don't let me walk home alone." I beg in a quiet voice, looking down at my feet. The next thing I see are his black combat boots right in front of my shoes. I look up into his eyes and he looks down into mine confusion written all over his face. "How come you aren't running yet?" He questions searching my eyes. "I just can't walk home alone, please I'm scared." I hear him chuckle. "You aren't afraid of me? What can possibly be scarier than me?" He asks. "Well, I know you will keep me safe." "Why is that?"
