Zoey, a kid that has a lot of burdens, has been in foster homes three times. The first time was because her parents were murdered at her birth, a year later on Zoey's birthday they were murdered also, the next family was very leery on taking her in but decided to do so anyway, the same terrible fate happened to them also. Finally her luck turned for the best, her last foster family survived until she was seventeen, only to be killed once more.
Jake, Zoey's best friend, has been with her through thick and thin, not knowing each of their deepest secret they finally indulge in them to each other. Jake has been in love with Zoey since he could remember, although has never even thought of telling her.
Together they must find the others of the Ancient Powers. Only certain people that Nyx herself blesses, can get these powers. Centuries ago when there were dozens of Ancient Powers people got scared that under the Ancients rule they will be forced into slavery. So one by one they killed each and every Ancient. So Nyx stopped giving them these blessings for fear they will kill innocent people again.
Nyx, night personified, has seen what she thinks will happen if the Ancients don't come back. Now she has opened the box to the Ancient Power and unleashed it back on the people she finds most deserving, because The Kingdom has gone corrupt, and a special group sets out to save their world.
