Doody Newman is an adventurous brown tabby (the brownest tabby in Texas) who graciously shares his exploits in Cattails of Doody Newman with skin people. Its message is centered on the age-old battle of good versus evil. Doody, a precocious tabby, has an encounter with the divine and his life is never the same. He wrestles with leaving the familiar and accepting his new "gift" and all that it entails. His greatest worry is how it will affect all those he loves and the things that he cherishes. Doody likes the laissez-faire lifestyle that he lives and doesn't feel worthy of his new calling. Skin people also wrestle with these dilemmas, especially when they are making the transition from childhood to adolescence. McGee has skillfully crafted the magical, mystical transformation of this average everyday tabby into something wonderful for the enjoyment of its readers, both young and old.
