Clary Fray knows about the shadow world. Her mother told her a long time ago. She felt as if anything happened, Clary should know how to protect herself. So she trained.

But one day, Clary gets a phone call from her mother, telling her the Valentine has finally come for her, and that she's not safe.

So Clary runs. But she happens to run so far that she meets the arrogant and cocky, Jace Wayland. Jace takes Clary in, and helps her try to figure out what happened to her mother.
