The 25th Hunger Games started with a horrible twist: the districts would have to choose for is played in the capital's life and death game. All across the districts, parents are huddled crying, then hoping, begging, pleading to neighbors to not to enter their child. Because who would willingly fight to the death?
Glisten Jerez is a fighter. She should be as coming from district 1, she's literally trained her whole life for this. And so what if the other tributes were chosen by their district itself? It just means more fun for her.
Trained in spear and mace, she's strong, tough, and had the worst potty mouth. But will her temper get her in trouble? Of course not. Nothing and no one will stand in her way...even if she has to kill every single one of them.
"Our district always chose the tributes, anyone, even the stupidest idiot could see that. But this is the only time the world would know. There's more than just honor on the line."

The 136th Hunger Games
When Kira Blackwood's name is reaped, she knows she's screwed. How is she supposed to survive in a fight to death with twenty-three other tributes, all of whom want to get out alive as much as she does? Not to mention, the thought of killing somebody twists her stomach into all sorts of unnatural shapes. Despite secretly training for the Games in the cow pastures surrounding her home, and being pretty handy with a knife, Kira's kind heart may be the thing that holds her back the most. However, as she navigates through the opulent world of the Capitol, and then the arena itself, Kira starts to realize that maybe, just maybe, it's not the dead she should pity, but the Victor. After all, no one ever really wins the Hunger Games. Survives, sure. But wins? Never. ~~+~~ Please Note: This is set in a world where the 2nd Rebellion failed. All usurpers were executed (except those pesky star-crossed lovers, who knows where they ran off to), District 13 was destroyed for good (but District 12 was rebuilt, on the basis that the Capitol realized that it actually really needed coal), and the Hunger Games were reinstated.
