Pets may not speak unless spoken to, must stay loyal to their assigned family, and must do whatever the family asks. Pets must sign a contract that transfers their physical rights over to the family before being able to live with them. Of course, being a 'pet' is an option and an option only some people are offered, but once you sign the contract your life now belongs to your family until death. Warning!
