"So, Kaz, tell me about yourself. Not the-My favorite color is pink, I love Starbucks, and I have a dog named FiFi-kind of shit," he said in a girly voice which made me laugh. "Tell me about your personal life," he asked.
"Um. okay," I said nervously. My life wasn't something I particularly like to talk about and I always get nervous talking about it.
So, when the waiter brought back our waters I took a large sip of water to calm my nerves.
"I can go first if you want. And sorry I'm being so abrupt, but I really want to get to know you more and I want you to want to know more about me since your going to be my girlfriend," he explained and then smiled.
I literally choked on my water.

WHAT.
I think my brain started shutting down or something because I couldn't talk. Or breathe. Or think.

Kaz Chan, a very intelligent 17-year old who is, unfortunately, the victim of constant bullying at her high school due to her smarts and nerdy appeal, causing her to be antisocial and not have any friends. With problems at home and a strict mom who is breathing down her neck about her grades, Kaz finds it difficult to be happy.
Alex Lee Flynn has the looks, the money, the athleticism, and most importantly, the grades. He's considered to be one of the most popular boys in all of High School. He's the all-star and captain of his soccer team and even already signed with Standford to play there. But he's got problems of his own he's got to handle.
Alex and Kaz are longtime competitors in the academic world. Ever since 8th grade either would challenge to be better, smarter, or more knowledgeable in a subject. So when they are both nominated to represent the school in a science fair all the way in New York, little do they know they will have to work together.
When a terrible event happens to Kaz, bringing her and Alex closer than ever, will this rebuild her hope of happiness or will it lead to her Breaking Point?
... that changes everything
Sarah was starting her junior year of high school. Looking at herself in the mirror, she saw a pretty average blonde haired, blue eyed, teenager. She was neither in the popular group, nor one of the many cliched outsiders. Sarah was a nobody. She liked to blend in and lay low. It was her way out of not only this town, but her house. No one knew it, but her father was a high functioning alcoholic that often took his anger out on his family. With her older sister now in college, it had turned to her more often. Laying low in general was a good strategy.
Across town, Ryan was prepping for his final year in high school. While he wasn't the stereotypical quarterback of the football team, he did fit into the popular crowd. His sports of choice included basketball and soccer, either of which might line him up for a scholarship next year. Ryan had a group of close friends and a lot of adoring acquaintances. It wasn't easy juggling his athletics and keeping the grades up, but he was just that good. The supporting parents didn't hurt either.
It might be a cliché romance, but it will be fun to see what the year and beyond holds.

This is a story I wrote years ago, or at least partially wrote. As I transcribe it here, I have tried to update it a bit and give the characters/story more depth than what I had when I was younger. Hopefully it all gets pulled together!
