A dystopian young adult novel involving romance, secret experiments on human subjects, and a group of teenagers' will to survive. Reader Comments: "I'm gonna gush about your book real quick...all the technology has a purpose and is beautifully explained so I can picture it in my mind...the whole concept of the book is completely original...*moment of silence for your beautiful arch of character development* everything your characters do is strictly them but they develop enough to show more about themselves without you straight up telling the reader about them" -Vairl9023 "Ahh!!! This is so good!! I will be anxiously awaiting the next Chapter!!" -CrystalBagot "Brilliant...ohh, this is very catchy, good work" -IndeeMaynard "I love this so far" -BrianneMorris "You've done a great job at creating a mysterious mood" -poisonedpen *** All Evita Creedy, 17, wants is to finish her degree and be accepted for a prestigious job with the city's Department of Energy. [ONC ROUND ONE WINNER: 4th place] When he discovers his husband has been replaced, an android hunter must find the impostor in time to rescue the man he loves. SynTracker is one half of a duology of novellas. Both follow the same sequence of events from different PoVs. SynTracker is Ian's tale; BioSynth is Quentin's. Collectively, they're known as Syn. ≡≡≡ Ian Morgan is a man who does the wrong job for the right reasons. Honour-bound to keep the streets safe, Ian is a SynTracker: someone whose job is to hunt down BioSynths - obsolete yet incredibly dangerous synthetic self-aware weapons - and return them to the government, to be reprogrammed and repurposed. It'd be an easier task if they hadn't been programmed to mimic reactions that allow them to pass as humans, complete with tears. Deeply in love with Quentin, his husband of eight years, Ian's home life more than makes up for the work that wears him down. But a car crash that could have killed Quentin reveals a shocking truth: his husband has been replaced by a BioSynth. With the impostor on the loose, Ian must now Track it, knowing he needs to comb its memories for any clue regarding Quentin's whereabouts - if he's even alive. ≡≡≡ SynTracker was written for the Open Novella Contest 2021 and is based on prompt #4: You're a weapon, and weapons don't weep. It features a romance between two men. ≡≡≡ ONC Round One Winner: 4th Place Speculative Fiction Awards, Utopia/Distopia: Runner-Up R4R Awards, Sci-Fi: 2nd Place

Ironhead (A Cyborg Tale)

17 parts Ongoing Mature

Half-organic. Half-mechanical. Completely vengeful. Joaquin "Quiche" Herrera finds it hard not to conflate how he identifies, but he's long since come to terms with who he is... the word frightens him to say: Cyborg. Reckless, rusted, and busted, our protagonist benefits from veteran discounts and survives the outside world with a red eye for justice and a skull as hard as titanium. All for one man responsible: Gui Bolsonaro. Gui, a lofty U.S. Army Colonel and overseer of a military black project, became dishonorably discharged from his duties. He became a "ghost." Disembodied voices haunt Joaquin every night as if his brain's been hacked. In desperation, Joaquin goes to the FBI with all the dirt he has through years of sleepless research. Turns out his amphetamine-fueled nights were fruitful. His "Ghost" was pinged long ago due to being tied to several crimes across the U.S. and South America with the title of CEO of BlueMoon, a private military contractor. Joaquin joins forces with Martina Lessa, a dorky field agent with drug cartel experience, to arrest their Ghost as a domestic terrorist. The journey, however, takes them down a twisted, jagged road of connections to the past that conjures up more ghosts than they'd want.
