During the Blitz, everyone had to make sacrifices, and for young Sarah and her little brother, it was their mother, who presumably died in a bombing near their house, but did she? Sarah finds moving to the countryside incredibly difficult but accepting her father's tragic death is even harder. Sarah and her little brother are forced to move to the countryside where they meet a new family which loves and adores them as if they were their own children. Jack starts to love their new family, although Sarah still longs to be with her mother. No matter how hard the family tries to comfort Sarah, she isolates herself away from them. Will Sarah return to her true family?
