We all want to fit in. We all want to be respect. We all want to be loved. Brooklyn is a 17 years old girl. She sees no sence in her life. She's embossed of her life, does self-injury and hides behind a big wall in her heart. A big shadow is hanging over her. A jet black heart. Even though, she and her family moved away of North Carolina, nothing seems to get better. She doesn't fit in. She doesn't get respect. She's not loved. For her, the only way to get away, is suicide. Then Luke came into her life. Like a light in the dark. Like a sunlight in the shadow, it brightens her dark soul. He shows her love. He shows her the moments of luck in life. The first time in life she feels loved. But the past is chasing them. Stronger then anything. It's trying to keep them apart. Are their love strong enough?

Alice is a 17 year old girl, who temporarily moves to Sydney to live with a foster family since her own parents don't want to speak to her anymore. She goes to school with her foster brother and sister and then she meets Luke Hemmings, the shy boy who always chooses to sit by himself in the back of the classroom. When they get to know each other, Luke falls madly in love with her, but Alice just sees him as her best friend. Is Alice going to open her eyes and see that Luke is in love with her? "Family isn't always blood, it's the people in your life, who want you in theirs; the ones who can accept you for who you are. The ones who would do anything just to see you smile, and love you no matter what."
